The order, issued as factional tensions within the ruling state party reached a boiling point, effectively stalls the Trinamool Congress's ability to contest elections under its existing banner until the internal dispute is resolved.
The freeze follows a prolonged internal feud that has seen several senior TMC leaders distance themselves from party chief Mamata Banerjee, alleging undemocratic practices within the party structure. The dissenting group, comprising former ministers, sitting MLAs, and influential cadre members, has been demanding greater internal accountability and transparency in decision-making processes.
