Political and religious leaders across Jammu and Kashmir have voiced sharp opposition to a planned event titled 'Tantra in Silence', which was announced to take place in the Gurez valley from September 24 to 27. The event, which gained attention after a promotional poster circulated widely, featured the name of Swami Dhyan Sumit, head of the Shree Rajneesh Foundation, as one of its scheduled speakers.
In response to the growing controversy, the Bandipora district administration issued a public clarification stating unequivocally that no permission or clearance had been granted for the event. District authorities urged residents and visitors not to rely on any promotional material or social media posts claiming official backing for the gathering. Officials described the circulating posters as unauthorised and cautioned the public against being misled by such claims.
The Gurez valley, located in the Bandipora district near the Line of Control, is a sensitive and strategically significant area known for its natural beauty and remote terrain. The region has frequently been the focus of security concerns and administrative scrutiny. Local political figures argued that organising large gatherings in such areas without proper authorisation could disrupt law and order and raise security questions.
Religious leaders who joined the protest expressed concern over the nature of the event, which they felt did not align with the cultural and social fabric of the valley. They called on the administration to prevent any unauthorised programmes from being held in the region and stressed the importance of maintaining public peace.
The incident has reignited debates about the regulation of spiritual and cultural events in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in areas where security and administrative protocols are tightly enforced. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and to verify any event announcements through official channels before making plans to attend.
