The Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications has announced an extension in the last date for applying to the West Bengal Gram Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment drive, which offers 2,357 posts across various postal circles in the state. Candidates who had been awaiting the final call to apply can now submit their online applications well beyond the original deadline on the official India Post portal at indiapost.gov.in.
The recruitment notification was initially released with a fixed application window, but due to numerous requests from aspirants and logistical challenges faced by candidates in certain regions, the authorities decided to grant additional time. The Gram Dak Sevak position is one of the most sought-after entry-level roles in the postal department, offering a stable government job with opportunities for career growth.
The selection process for GDS posts is conducted based on merit achieved in the qualifying examination, typically Class 10 or equivalent pass marks. Candidates belonging to reserved categories, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, may be eligible for age relaxations as per government norms. The appointment comes with a monthly salary as per the pay scales fixed by the Department of Posts, along with various allowances and benefits available to postal department employees.
Applicants are advised to carefully fill in all required details, upload necessary documents in the specified format, and complete the payment of the application fee before the revised deadline. Candidates who have already submitted their applications need not take any further action, as their submissions remain valid. The India Post continues to serve as one of the largest postal networks in the world, providing employment opportunities across rural and urban areas of the country.
