The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board (UPPRPB) is preparing to announce the long-awaited result for the Sub-Inspector (SI) examination, with officials indicating that the declaration is expected sometime in March. The result pertains to one of the most competitive recruitment drives conducted by the state, attracting lakhs of applicants across Uttar Pradesh.
Alongside the result announcement, the UPPRPB has confirmed that it will soon release a fresh notification for around 5,000 new Sub-Inspector vacancies in the state police force. This comes as part of a broader effort to strengthen law enforcement staffing in India's most populous state, where police-to-population ratios remain well below the recommended national standard.
The recruitment process for UP Police SIs typically involves multiple stages — a written examination, physical efficiency test, physical endurance test, document verification, and a medical examination. Candidates who appeared for the preliminary written exam had been waiting anxiously for the results, given that the examination saw an unprecedented number of applicants competing for a limited number of positions.
Sources within the board indicated that the final merit list will be released after all stage-wise evaluations are completed and any pending objections or claims from candidates are addressed. The UPPRPB has been under pressure to clear its backlog of recruitment processes, including several other examinations conducted over the past year.
Political and administrative leaders have welcomed the decision to create thousands of new SI posts, noting that adequate police staffing is essential for maintaining public order and improving response times in a state that spans over 240,000 square kilometers. Union Home Ministry guidelines have long recommended a police-population ratio of 222 officers per lakh people, a target that Uttar Pradesh has struggled to meet due to chronic understaffing.
The upcoming vacancy release is expected to follow the same selection framework as previous years, with reservations applicable as per state government norms across categories including General, OBC, SC, ST, and women candidates.
