The Uttar Pradesh State Education Department has officially opened the online application window for one of the largest teacher recruitment drives in the state's history — 15,012 vacancies spanning the roles of Assistant Teacher and Post Graduate Teacher (PGT). The announcement sends renewed hope to thousands of education aspirants who have been waiting for this long-pending recruitment process to begin.
The recruitment notification, released by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Service Selection Board (UPBEB), outlines that the Assistant Teacher posts will cover subjects such as Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Sanskrit at the upper primary and secondary levels across the state. The PGT positions are designated for senior teaching roles at the high school level, with specialized subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Political Science, History, and other disciplines as per the curriculum requirements of UP state schools.
Candidates who wish to apply must meet the prescribed educational qualifications — a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree alongside a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate specialization for Assistant Teacher positions, while PGT roles require a Master's degree in the concerned subject along with a B.Ed. qualification. Age relaxations applicable to reserved categories under UP government norms will also be extended to candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and economically disadvantaged sections.
The selection process is expected to follow a multi-stage procedure, beginning with a written entrance examination conducted by the UP Basic Education Service Selection Board. Candidates who clear the written test will then proceed to document verification, and potentially a teaching demonstration or interview round, depending on the final policy guidelines issued by the department.
This recruitment drive comes after several years of delays and legal challenges that kept the selection board from conducting fresh examinations. Previous recruitment cycles were stalled due to court orders and objections regarding the validity of earlier merit lists. The current notification is being treated as a fresh opportunity, and officials have emphasized that the entire process will be completed transparently and within a targeted timeline.
The UP government has stated that filling these 15,012 positions is a critical step toward improving the quality of education in the state's vast network of basic and high schools.
