The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has outlined a comprehensive three-tier selection process for its 2019 recruitment drive for Village Administrative Officer (VAO) posts. Thousands of aspirants across the state are preparing for this competitive examination, which is considered one of the most sought-after government jobs in Tamil Nadu.
The first stage of the selection process is the written examination, conducted in two papers. Paper I tests candidates on general studies and aptitude, covering subjects such as Indian history, geography, polity, economy, general science, and current affairs. Paper II focuses on the Tamil language, including comprehension, translation, essay writing, and grammar. Both papers are of equal marks weightage, and candidates must clear the minimum qualifying marks in each paper separately to be eligible for the next stage.
Following the written exam, candidates who secure sufficient scores are called for document verification. This stage involves the scrutiny of educational qualifications, age proof, category certificates, and other mandatory documents. Only candidates who possess the requisite qualification — a bachelor's degree from a recognized university — are eligible to appear for the examination.
The final stage involves a medical fitness test conducted by authorized medical authorities. Candidates must meet the prescribed physical standards to be selected for the VAO post. Successful candidates are then placed on the merit list based on their cumulative performance across all stages.
The TNPSC has released the official notification specifying that approximately 3,471 vacancies are available across various districts in Tamil Nadu. The application window opened in early 2019, and the commission has urged candidates to carefully read the information bulletin before filling out their forms. Any discrepancy in the application may lead to disqualification.
