The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has kicked off the recruitment drive for the post of Archaeological Officer under the state's Department of Archaeology, inviting eligible candidates to submit their applications online. The notification lays out the eligibility criteria, selection process, and detailed pay information for the vacancies.
The position of Archaeological Officer falls under the administrative control of the Department of Archaeology, Government of Tamil Nadu, which is responsible for the preservation, conservation, and excavation of historical and cultural sites across the state. Tamil Nadu alone boasts several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Great Living Chola Temples, the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram, and the Brihadeeswara Temple — making this recruitment particularly significant for the state's cultural heritage framework.
Candidates are required to hold a Master's degree in Archaeology, Ancient History, Cultural History, or a related discipline from a recognised university, along with certain additional qualifications as specified in the official notification. Preference may also be given to candidates with field experience in excavation work or knowledge of epigraphy and numismatics.
The selected candidates will be placed in Level 8 of the Tamil Nadu State Pay Matrix, with a monthly salary ranging up to ₹1,14,000, inclusive of basic pay and applicable allowances. Age relaxation and reservation benefits will apply as per government norms for SC/ST/OBC and other categories.
The application process is entirely online through the TNPSC portal. Candidates must register themselves, fill in the required details, upload necessary documents, and pay the prescribed application fee before the deadline. Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written examination followed by an interview or personality test, depending on the commission's final selection criteria.
