Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) has officially released the detailed recruitment notification for the Group 1 Combined Civil Services Examination 2024, opening doors to some of the most prestigious administrative and law enforcement positions in the state government.
The notification, published on the official TNPSC website, outlines the recruitment cycle for posts including District Collector, Sub-Collector, District Registration and Stamps Commissioner, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Consular Officer, and other Group 1 gazetted positions under the Tamil Nadu Administrative Services.
Approximately 186 vacancies have been announced for the current recruitment cycle, though the commission has indicated that final numbers may be adjusted based on departmental requirements and government approval. The selection process will follow the three-tier structure that TNPSC has consistently used — a Preliminary examination, a Main written examination, and a Personality Test or Interview.
Eligibility criteria require candidates to hold a Bachelor's degree from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) or an equivalent body. The age limit for general category candidates stands at 21 to 38 years as of the specified date. Age relaxations are available across categories: OBC candidates receive a five-year relaxation, SC and BC candidates receive a seven-year relaxation, and physically disabled candidates get an additional twelve years of relaxation over their respective category limits.
Application fees have been set at Rs 100 for general category applicants, while SC, SC(A), and PwBD candidates are required to pay only Rs 25. The online application window is expected to remain open for approximately six to eight weeks, after which candidates will need to appear for the preliminary examination scheduled later in the year.
TNPSC Group 1 examinations are among the most competitive recruitment processes in India, attracting hundreds of thousands of applicants annually from across the country. Successful candidates are posted in roles that carry significant executive, judicial, and revenue responsibilities within Tamil Nadu's administrative framework. The commission has urged all interested candidates to regularly check the official website for updates regarding admit cards, exam schedules, and result declarations.
