The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced one of its largest recruitment drives for the year, filling tens of thousands of vacant positions across Delhi Police and various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). The notification, released late last year for the 2020 recruitment cycle, covers multiple categories of posts including Constables and Sub-Inspectors, drawing applications from lakhs of aspirants nationwide.
The recruitment encompasses posts in the Delhi Police, which operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs, as well as forces such as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Indochina Border Police Force (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Each of these organizations had significant unfiled vacancies that the SSC notification aimed to address simultaneously.
Candidates who secure positions through this recruitment drive can expect a salary structure that reaches up to ₹1,12,400 per month at the higher ranks. The pay scales are determined by the 7th Central Pay Commission recommendations, with entry-level personnel starting at basic pay plus allowances such as house rent allowance, medical benefits, and other government perks that can significantly boost total compensation depending on the posting location.
The selection process typically involves a written examination conducted by SSC, followed by physical efficiency tests, document verification, and medical examinations — especially for posts in police and paramilitary forces where physical standards are strictly enforced. The competitive nature of these exams means that only a small fraction of applicants succeed, with millions competing for a limited number of seats each cycle.
SSC officials emphasized that candidates should apply promptly as the window for submission was expected to be time-bound. Eligibility criteria generally included age limits ranging from 18 to 25 years for most entries, with educational qualifications varying from 12th pass for some constable posts to graduation for sub-inspector roles. Reserved category candidates received applicable age relaxations as per government norms.
