The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) on Tuesday officially announced a massive recruitment drive for 25,487 vacancies of Permanent Party Member (PPM) / Constable (General Duty) across several Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the Indian Coast Guard. The notification was published on the commission's official website, ssc.nic.in, and the application window for eligible candidates is expected to open imminently.
The vacant posts will be distributed among the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Rapid Action Force (RAF), and the Directorate General of Family Welfare, along with the Indian Coast Guard. These positions fall under Group C and Non-Gazetted levels in the government service hierarchy.
Candidates who have passed the 10th standard examination or its equivalent from a recognized board are eligible to apply. The age limit for general category candidates typically ranges between 18 and 23 years, with relaxations applicable for reserved categories as per government norms. Women candidates are also encouraged to apply, as recruitment targets include a specified number of female constables across participating forces.
The selection process will unfold in four stages. First, candidates must clear the Computer Based Examination (CBE), which tests proficiency in subjects such as Hindi, English, Mathematics, and General Intelligence and Reasoning. Those who qualify the written test will then appear for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST). Candidates who clear the physical screenings will proceed to document verification and a comprehensive medical examination before final merit listing.
The starting salary for a GD Constable under the 7th Pay Commission falls within Level 3 of the pay matrix, with a basic pay ranging from Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100 per month. Depending on the posting location and allowances such as house rent allowance, uniform allowance, and other government benefits, the in-hand monthly salary can range approximately between Rs 25,000 and Rs 35,000. In addition, personnel receive free accommodation, medical facilities, pension benefits under the National Pension System, and other service perks.
Career progression for GD Constables is structured, with opportunities to be promoted to Head Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector, and higher ranks over the course of service.
