South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), one of India's largest coal-producing public sector enterprises under the Ministry of Coal, has announced a major recruitment drive for 1600 apprentice positions for the year 2026. The notification was recently published on the organization's official website and the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme portal, inviting eligible candidates to apply online.
SECL, headquartered in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, operates several coal mines and projects across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Maharashtra. The company is a Gem-rated Mini Ratna PSU and contributes significantly to the country's coal output. This latest recruitment push is aimed at strengthening its technical workforce pipeline through structured training and skill development.
The apprentice vacancies are spread across multiple trade categories including fitter, welder, electrician, mechanic (heavy vehicle), clerk-cum-typist, and other technical trades relevant to mining and industrial operations. Candidates who have passed the relevant ITI examination or equivalent vocational qualification from a recognized board are eligible to apply.
The application process is entirely online. Interested candidates must register on the official portal, fill in personal and educational details, upload required documents, and submit the application before the deadline specified in the notification. There is no application fee for most categories, though general and OBC candidates may be required to pay a nominal processing charge as per government norms.
Selection will be based on merit derived from academic performance in the qualifying trade. Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification and medical examination before being assigned to various SECL units for their training tenure, which typically spans one to two years depending on the trade and organizational requirements.
