The State Bank of India (SBI) has initiated one of its largest-ever recruitment drives for apprentice posts, with more than 6,000 vacancies notified across various domains. The bank's official notification confirmed that candidates from diverse educational backgrounds — including engineering, arts, commerce, science, and information technology — are eligible to apply for the open positions.
The application window is set to close imminently, making the final day a critical deadline for thousands of aspirants who have been waiting for this opportunity. SBI has been conducting these recruitment drives in line with the provisions of the Apprentices Act, 1961, which mandates that public sector banks onboard young trainees to strengthen their operational workforce while providing valuable on-the-job experience.
Under the SBI Apprentice program, candidates are typically placed on a one-year training contract where they receive a monthly stipend rather than a full salary. The stipend amount has historically varied depending on the candidate's educational qualification, with engineering graduates generally receiving higher stipends compared to commerce or arts graduates. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship term, participants may receive a certificate of proficiency, though direct absorption into permanent positions is not guaranteed under the apprenticeship framework.
Eligibility criteria for the recruitment drive require candidates to have passed their graduation from a recognized university. Age relaxation provisions are available for candidates belonging to reserved categories as per government norms. The selection process is primarily based on merit, determined through the candidate's academic performance during the graduation stage.
Applicants are required to complete their registration through the SBI's official careers portal at sbi.co.in. The bank has urged candidates to ensure all required documents — including educational certificates, identity proofs, and category certificates where applicable — are ready before submitting their applications, to avoid last-minute complications.
