The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has kicked off two major hiring drives in 2026, opening the doors for thousands of aspirants seeking government employment in the health and engineering verticals of Indian Railways.
First, a recruitment notification has been issued for approximately 590 medical and dental positions across various railway establishments. These roles are primarily aimed at filling vacancies in therailway healthcare system, which includes positions such as Dental Surgeon, Medical Officer, and other allied health professionals. Candidates holding relevant postgraduate qualifications in dentistry or medicine from recognized institutions are eligible to apply. The starting pay for these positions falls under Pay Matrix Level 10, with a monthly salary beginning at roughly ₹44,900, along with standard railway benefits including medical facilities, housing allowance, and travel concessions for the employee and family.
In a separate but simultaneous drive, the RRB has also opened applications for 3,993 Junior Engineer posts across multiple departments — including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Signal & Telecommunications engineering. These JE positions are filled through the RRB JE CBT exam conducted earlier in the year, and candidates who cleared the preliminary and secondary computer-based tests can now apply through the online portal. The Junior Engineer cadre also attracts the same starting salary of approximately ₹44,900 per month and offers similar allowances and benefits as other Level 10 posts.
Applications for both drives have already started and candidates are being urged to complete their submissions before the deadlines expire. The official notifications specify that candidates must verify their eligibility criteria carefully, especially regarding age limits, educational qualifications, and category-wise reservations, before applying. The selection process for the medical positions involves document verification and possibly a personal interview, while the JE roles will proceed based on merit ranked from the CBT scores.
These recruitments represent one of the largest single-year hiring pushes by the Railways, sending thousands of qualified professionals into the rail network's expanding healthcare and engineering services.
