The Punjab state government is gearing up to announce a major recruitment drive for the post of Patwari, with a notification expected in the coming days for over 1,000 vacancies. The Patwari role, one of the most competitive government positions in the state, is responsible for maintaining land records, revenue collection, and rural administrative oversight at the village level.
According to sources familiar with the development, the Punjab Department of Revenue will likely issue the official notification through its dedicated recruitment portal. The previous Patwari recruitment cycles in Punjab have consistently attracted between 15 to 20 lakh applicants for just a few hundred posts, making this a high-stakes opportunity for graduates across the state.
While the detailed notification has not yet been released, expected eligibility criteria are believed to include a graduation degree from a recognized university as the minimum educational qualification. Candidates falling within the age bracket of 18 to 42 years, subject to standard government relaxations for reserved categories, are likely to be eligible. Previous experience in revenue or land administration may be given weightage during selection.
The selection process is anticipated to follow the same pattern as earlier cycles — a computer-based written examination conducted by the Punjab Sub-ordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB) or the relevant appointing authority. The exam will test candidates on subjects including General Knowledge focused on Punjab, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, Computer Fundamentals, and Hindi language proficiency. A document verification stage will follow the written test.
Successful candidates can expect a starting monthly salary in the range of ₹23,000 to ₹28,000 as per the 7th Pay Commission pay band, along with standard government allowances such as house rent allowance and medical benefits. The post carries significant social standing in rural Punjab, where Patwaris serve as key intermediaries between citizens and the revenue department.
Experts suggest that aspirants should begin preparing immediately, as the notification could be released with little advance notice. Coaching institutes across Punjab have already started organizing dedicated Patwari preparation batches in anticipation of the announcement.
