Job aspirants in northern India have a significant boost as two major government recruitment drives are set to unfold simultaneously in the coming days. In Jammu & Kashmir, over 6,500 positions are being filled across the Indian Railways and J&K Bank, marking one of the largest employment notifications in the region in recent years. The recruitment encompasses a wide range of categories — from junior clerical roles and commercial assistants to technical and support staff in the railways, alongside probationary officer and clerk positions at J&K Bank, a regional financial institution that has historically been a preferred employer for local youth.
The J&K Bank recruitment typically draws tens of thousands of applicants each cycle, given the bank's strong presence across the union territory and its reputation for offering stable, well-compensated public-sector employment. Railway recruitments under such notifications generally include groups C and D posts, which are among the most sought-after entry-level government jobs due to their job security and pension benefits under the National Pension System.
Meanwhile, in neighboring Uttar Pradesh, the state government is preparing to reopen applications for Group G examinations — the lowest tier of state government recruitment covering peon, helper, and other support roles. Applications are expected to open on Monday, giving candidates from across the state — India's most populous — a chance to secure permanent government positions. These roles, while entry-level, provide steady income, government housing in some cases, and social prestige that continues to make them highly competitive.
Both recruitment cycles reflect the persistent demand for public-sector employment among young Indians, especially in regions where private-sector opportunities remain limited. Career coaches note that preparation timelines for such exams often stretch 8 to 14 months, and candidates frequently appear across multiple recruitment notifications to improve their odds.
