OnePlus is gearing up for one of its most comprehensive product launches in India, a source familiar with the company's plans revealed recently. Rather than jumping straight into the flagship territory with what was long anticipated as the OnePlus 16, the firm is instead launching a more affordable variant called the OnePlus 16R. Industry analysts say this strategic pivot comes amid intensifying competition in the ₹30,000 to ₹45,000 price segment, where brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, and realme have been aggressively expanding their portfolios.
The OnePlus 16R is expected to carry key flagship features — such as a high-refresh-rate AMOLED display, fast-charging support, and a capable Snapdragon processor — while shedding some premium elements like wireless charging and an IP68 water-resistance rating. Pricing is anticipated to fall between ₹32,999 and ₹39,999, a range where margins remain competitive but volumes can still grow.
Following the 16R, OnePlus plans to introduce the Nord 7 series, which is likely to occupy the ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 bracket. The Nord line has historically been the volume driver for the brand in India, and the Nord 7 is expected to bring updated camera hardware and a refreshed design language.
Perhaps the most notable addition to the roadmap is a completely new budget category — the N series. Industry insiders suggest this will target the sub-₹20,000 segment, an area where OnePlus currently has no presence despite significant consumer demand. The move signals the company's intent to capture first-time smartphone buyers and entry-level upgraders who have so far migrated to competitors offering better value at lower price points.
The phased rollout, stretching across several months, appears designed to keep the brand consistently in consumer conversations rather than relying on a single annual flagship launch. If executed smoothly, the expanded portfolio could materially shift OnePlus's market position in India's highly contested smartphone industry.
