The Maharashtra Forest Department has moved ahead with one of the largest recruitment drives in recent years, notifying 2,417 vacant posts of Forest Guard across the state. The announcement was made through an official notification published on the department's website, mahaforest.gov.in, inviting eligible candidates to apply online.
Forest Guard is a Group C state service position under the Maharashtra Forest Department, responsible for patrolling forest areas, preventing illegal logging and poaching, maintaining law and order in forest zones, and assisting in wildlife conservation efforts. The role is considered one of the most sought-after government jobs in the state due to its stability, benefits, and the opportunity to serve in remote and ecologically sensitive regions.
The recruitment process is expected to follow the standard selection procedure for state forest department posts, which typically includes a written examination conducted by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission or the department itself, followed by a physical efficiency test and document verification. Candidates who clear each stage are placed on a merit list based on their combined scores.
Eligibility criteria generally require candidates to be Indian nationals, between 18 and 28 years of age depending on category relaxations, and possess at least a secondary education certificate or equivalent from a recognized board. Physical fitness standards, including height and chest measurements for male candidates and specific endurance tests, are also imposed as part of the selection process.
