The notification outlines subject-wise topics, the marking scheme, and the overall structure of the competitive written examination that will determine shortlisting for the subsequent physical tests.
The written examination is designed to assess candidates across five core subject areas: General Knowledge and Current Affairs, which covers national and state-level events, Indian history, geography, and polity; Mathematics, featuring arithmetic, algebra, and data interpretation; Reasoning and Aptitude, including logical deductions, analogies, and coding-decoding questions; English Language, testing comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary; and General Science, covering basic physics, chemistry, and biology at the secondary school level.
Each section carries specified marks, and the marking scheme follows a positive-only format — there is currently no negative marking for incorrect responses, a decision that experts say may encourage broader attempts by candidates. The total duration of the written paper has been set at two hours, with the overall maximum marks structured to give equal weightage to all five subjects.
Following the written test, candidates who qualify will face the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), which includes a race component, long jump, and shot put events tailored to different gender and category groups. Candidates who clear both stages proceed to document verification before final selection.
The recruitment drive is expected to fill several thousand constable vacancies across Maharashtra's police force, with applications already being accepted through the official Maharashtra Police career portal. Officials have urged aspirants to begin preparation immediately, citing the high competition ratio typical for this exam.
