The National Health Mission (NHM) Maharashtra has officially announced a recruitment drive for a total of 132 healthcare positions across various districts of the state. The notification, released in 2022, covers critical front-line roles that form the backbone of public health infrastructure in Maharashtra.
The vacancies are distributed among three key categories. Multipurpose Workers (MPWs) make up a significant portion of the hiring, as these personnel serve as the primary point of contact between communities and the public health system. Staff Nurses are also being recruited to strengthen hospital-based care and community health programmes. Additionally, several Medical Officer positions have been opened for doctors who will be deployed at urban and rural health centres throughout the state.
NHM Maharashtra has long relied on contracted recruitment to fill gaps in its healthcare workforce, given the persistent shortage of qualified medical professionals in government facilities. This latest drive is seen as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to basic healthcare services in underserved areas, particularly in rural and semi-urban districts where doctor-to-patient ratios remain well below national averages.
Candidates interested in applying are expected to meet specific educational and professional qualification criteria depending on the post they wish to apply for. MPW positions typically require nursing diplomas or equivalent training, while nursing roles demand registered qualifications. Medical Officer positions require valid medical degrees and registration with the appropriate medical council.
The recruitment is expected to have a direct impact on healthcare delivery across Maharashtra, a state with over 11 crore residents depending heavily on public health facilities. Health officials have indicated that swift filling of these positions will help reduce workload pressures on existing staff and improve the quality of care delivered at primary and secondary health centres.
