Bengaluru: The Karnataka Police Department has officially opened the online application window for the recruitment of Sub-Inspectors, with a total of 735 vacancies announced across multiple special police forces in the state. The notification, published on the Karnataka Sub-Inspector Selection Recruitment portal, marks one of the most significant policing recruitments in the state's recent history.
The recruitment drive covers vacancies spread across several specialized police units including the Karnataka State Special Police Force, Karnataka Armed Police, and other auxiliary police services under the state Home Department. The positions are distributed across general category and reserved categories as per the state government's affirmative action policy.
Eligibility criteria require candidates to possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized university. The age limit for general category applicants stands at between 21 and 32 years, with appropriate relaxations available for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and economically disadvantaged groups as per Karnataka state government norms.
The selection process is structured in multiple stages. Candidates first need to clear the written examination, which tests subjects including general knowledge, reasoning ability, quantitative aptitude, and domain-specific police studies. Those who clear the written stage will subsequently face a Physical Efficiency Test and a Physical Standards Test, followed by a thorough medical examination. The final merit list will be prepared based on cumulative performance across all stages.
The application fee has been set at Rs 900 for general category candidates, while SC, ST, and EWS candidates are eligible for a concessional fee structure. Female candidates are also exempted from paying the application fee entirely. The online application process requires candidates to upload scanned photographs, signatures, and supporting documentary evidence, including educational certificates and category certificates where applicable.
Recruitment experts note that the Sub-Inspector rank holds significant importance in the Karnataka police hierarchy. It serves as a key officer-level position responsible for maintaining law and order at the sub-divisional level, managing police stations, and supervising junior personnel.
