The Karnataka Forest Department (KFD) has initiated a fresh recruitment drive for the post of Forest Watcher across its various circles, announcing a significant number of Group D vacancies. The department has invited online applications from eligible Indian citizens who meet the prescribed educational and physical standards for the role.
The recruitment notification was made public earlier this week, and the application window will remain open until September 30, 2026. Candidates are required to apply exclusively through the official Karnataka Forest Department recruitment portal and must upload the necessary documents, including photographs, signatures, and certificates, as per the stated format.
The Forest Watcher is a Group D position responsible for supporting forest conservation efforts, patrolling protected areas, preventing illegal logging and poaching, maintaining wildlife records, and assisting senior forest officers in day-to-day field operations. It is one of the most sought-after grassroots-level posts in the state due to its steady government employment and direct involvement in environmental protection.
Eligibility criteria require candidates to have passed the tenth standard or an equivalent examination from a recognized board. The department has also specified age limits and relaxation provisions for reserved categories as per Karnataka state government norms. Physical efficiency tests and document verification will form part of the selection process following the initial screening of applications.
Candidates from districts across Karnataka — including districts like Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Shivamogga, and Mysuru, which fall under key forest circles — are encouraged to apply. No application fee is being charged at this time for general category candidates, while fee structures for reserved categories will be as per existing government rules.
