Indian Railways has issued a fresh recruitment notification for 118 Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) vacancies spread across its various zones and departments. The advertisement has been published on the official Railway Recruitment Boards portal, inviting interested and eligible candidates to submit their applications online.
Multi-Tasking Staff positions are among the most sought-after entries in the railway recruitment process, primarily because they offer relatively lower educational eligibility requirements and attract a large volume of applicants from across the country. MTS roles typically involve general duty work such as cleaning, maintenance support, clerical assistance, and other ancillary services within railway stations, workshops, and administrative offices.
According to the recruitment notice, candidates who have passed the 10th standard examination from a recognized board or equivalent are eligible to apply for these posts. The upper age limit for general category applicants stands at 27 years, while reserved category candidates enjoy relaxations as per government norms - up to 32 years for Other Backward Classes, 37 years for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and additional concessions for widows, divorced women, and other specified categories.
The selection process for these positions will be conducted in two stages. First, candidates will undergo a physical efficiency test that includes a weight-carrying task and a long jump measurement. Those who clear the physical standards will then appear for a computer-based written examination. Final merit will be determined based on combined performance in both components.
Application fees vary by category. General and unreserved candidates are required to pay a fee of ₹100, while applicants from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and women candidates are exempted from payment entirely. The online application window is expected to remain open for approximately four weeks from the date of notification, after which no further submissions will be accepted.
