The Department of Posts, operating under the Ministry of Communications, has issued a significant recruitment notification opening applications for multiple positions across India. The drive covers roles such as Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS), Postal Assistant, Sorting Assistant, and Multi-Tasking Staff, offering thousands of government employment opportunities to qualified candidates nationwide.
The Gramin Dak Sevak recruitment alone accounts for over 7,000 vacancies spread across states, with appointments made on a contract basis through post offices in rural and semi-urban areas. Candidates who have passed the 10th standard or equivalent examination are eligible to apply for the GDS positions. The selection process is based on merit derived from qualifying marks obtained in the last academic examination, with reservations applicable as per government norms.
Separately, the recruitment for Postal Assistant and Sorting Assistant positions requires candidates to hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized university. These roles involve handling postal operations, managing correspondence, and assisting in the efficient delivery of mail and parcels in urban post offices. The selection for these posts typically involves a computer proficiency test followed by a documentary verification process.
The recruitment drive comes at a time when the Indian postal network, one of the largest in the world with over 150,000 post offices, continues to serve as a critical employment generator, especially in rural India. Officials stated that the notification aims to strengthen the postal workforce and improve service delivery across the country. Interested candidates were directed to apply online through the official portal www.recruitment.gdscp.gov.in within the stipulated timeframe.
