The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, has officially declared the results of the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment 2026. The results were published on the official India Post website at indiapost.gov.in, making them accessible to all candidates who applied for the position of Rural Postal Workers and Post Office Assistants across the country.
The announcement has triggered a wave of activity among thousands of aspirants who had appeared for the CBT-1 examination conducted earlier this year. The selection process for GDS posts includes a computer-based test followed by document verification. The merit lists have been released on a state-wise basis, meaning each state and union territory has its own separate merit list based on the number of vacancies allocated to that region.
According to the notification, candidates whose names appear on the state-wise merit list will need to report for document verification at their respective Regional Passport Offices or designated centers as notified by the India Post department. The document verification process is a crucial stage where candidates must produce original documents along with self-attested copies for scrutiny. Key documents required include the mark sheet of the qualifying examination, date-of-birth proof, caste certificate if applicable, domicile certificate, and other identity and educational documents as prescribed in the official notification.
Experts note that the GDS recruitment remains one of the most sought-after government jobs in the postal sector due to its relatively simple eligibility criteria and wide availability of positions across rural and semi-urban areas. In the 2026 cycle, over 5,000 posts were advertised across multiple states, attracting a massive number of applicants from every corner of India.
Candidates who have not found their names on the merit list are advised to carefully verify their registration details once more on the portal before drawing any conclusions. The India Post authority has clarified that the final selection will only be confirmed after successful document verification and background scrutiny.
