India Post has released the much-awaited merit list for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment drive, providing candidates with state-wise and category-wise cut-off marks to track their selection chances. The recruitment, conducted by the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications, fills thousands of postal assistant and GDS positions across the country through a merit-based selection process.
Unlike most government recruitment exams that involve written tests or skill assessments, the GDS selection is entirely based on marks obtained in the Class 10 (Matriculation) examination. Candidates who applied online are ranked according to their aggregate scores in Class 10 subjects, and the merit list is prepared accordingly for each state and reservation category.
The cut-off marks vary significantly from state to state due to differences in the number of vacancies, applicant pool size, and competition levels. States with higher population density and greater numbers of applicants tend to witness higher cut-offs, while smaller states may have comparatively lower thresholds. The cut-offs are further divided across categories — General, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS — with reserved categories enjoying relaxed marks as per government norms.
Candidates can access their status by visiting the official India Post GDS portal, entering their application number and other required details. Those whose names appear on the merit list move on to the document verification and medical examination stages, after which final appointment letters are issued.
The GDS recruitment cycle sees applications from lakhs of candidates every year, making it one of the most sought-after entry-level government jobs for individuals with a Class 10 education. The position offers a starting salary along with various allowances and job security, driving intense competition across all categories and states.
