India Post has officially unveiled the division-wise vacancy distribution for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment cycle slated for 2026 in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The recruitment notification marks one of the largest hiring drives undertaken by the postal department in recent years, aiming to fill positions across all key divisions of the state.
Under the GDS scheme, candidates are appointed as rural postal assistants and delivery / collection assistants responsible for managing post office operations in gram panchayat-level branches across the state. The vacancies span every major postal division in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Deoria, and Allahabad, among others, ensuring that remote and semi-urban areas also receive adequate staffing.
The division-wise breakup allows aspirants to identify where competition may be relatively lower or higher based on the number of openings allocated to each region. Posts are filled through an online merit list prepared on the basis ofClass 10 pass marks, with no professional degree required, making the exam accessible to a wide pool of candidates from rural and semi-urban backgrounds.
Eligibility criteria require candidates to be at least 18 years old and have passed the 10th standard or equivalent from a recognized board. Domicile requirements remain in place, restricting applications primarily to residents of Uttar Pradesh. Reservation norms as per state and central government guidelines will apply during final selection.
The selection process does not involve a written examination. Instead, candidates are shortlisted strictly on the basis of their Class 10 marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Merit lists will be published division-wise, and candidates who clear the document verification round are offered appointment letters from India Post.
