The Gujarat Postal Circle has officially launched a large-scale recruitment drive to fill 1,242 vacancies across the combined categories of Postman and Mail Guard. The notification, released by the circle's administrative office, states that the selections will be made through a written examination followed by document verification, with final appointments subject to the results of a medical fitness test.
Applicants are required to apply exclusively through the online portal designated by the India Post. The window for submission of applications is set to close on April 14, and officials have cautioned that no requests for extensions or offline applications will be entertained under any circumstances. Candidates are advised to complete their forms well in advance to avoid last-minute server congestion, a pattern commonly seen during high-demand government recruitment drives.
The post of Postman falls under Pay Level 2 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, offering a basic monthly salary range between Rs 1,800 and Rs 6,350, along with applicable allowances that vary by location. Mail Guard positions carry similar pay band structure and benefits. Together, these roles represent one of the most sought-after entries into the Indian postal service at the state level, owing to job stability and government employee entitlements.
The eligibility criteria mandate that candidates must have passed Class 10 from a recognized board. For Reserved Category applicants, including SC, ST, OBC, and EWS, relaxations in both age limit and application fees have been provided in line with central government norms. The upper age threshold for general category candidates stands at 27 years as per the latest notification, with each reserved category enjoying standard relaxation periods.
A total fee of Rs 20 applies to general and OBC applicants, while candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, and Economically Weaker Sections are exempted entirely from payment. The selection process will be conducted by the Gujarat Postal Circle in coordination with the Department of Posts, New Delhi. Shortlisted candidates will be called for a computer-based test covering reasoning, numerical ability, general awareness, and English or Hindi comprehension. Results will be published on the official postal circle website.
This recruitment drive comes at a time when the India Post network continues to expand its reach in rural and semi-urban Gujarat, strengthening connectivity in districts where private courier services remain limited. The posts will primarily service gram panchayats and smaller urban local bodies across the state.
