Gujarat's law enforcement apparatus is set for one of its largest expansions in recent years, as the Gujarat State Police Recruitment Board (GSPRB) officially notified a recruitment drive covering 12,472 vacant posts of Sub-Inspectors and Constables. The online application window is now open, and candidates are being urged to apply before the deadline closes.
The vacancies are spread across multiple categories, with positions allocated for Sub-Inspectors in various specialist and general duty branches, as well as Constable posts across general, women's, and tribal recruitment quotas. The recruitment board has also reserved seats according to the state government's existing reservation policy, ensuring representation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and economically backward sections of society.
Eligibility criteria require candidates to have completed graduation for Sub-Inspector posts and 12th-grade qualification or an equivalent degree for Constable positions. Age limits vary between 18 and 32 years depending on the post and candidate category, with relaxations applicable for reserved categories as per government norms. A physical efficiency test and physical endurance test will form part of the selection process for male candidates, while female candidates will be evaluated through a different set of physical standards.
The selection procedure follows a multi-stage process that includes a written examination, physical tests where applicable, document verification, and a final merit list based on cumulative performance. The Gujarat government has indicated that this recruitment drive is aimed at strengthening police infrastructure across both urban and rural districts, addressing long-pending shortages that have plagued the force for several years.
