The advertisement, published on the Gujarat government's official recruitment portal ojas.gujarat.gov.in, marks a decisive push by the state government to strengthen police staffing. Gujarat has long faced criticism from human rights bodies, parliamentary committees, and the Supreme Court itself for operating well below its sanctioned police strength — a shortfall that affects everything from daily patrol coverage to the force's ability to respond to emergencies.
According to the notification, the breakdown of posts includes a substantial number of Constable positions, alongside several thousand Head Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector, and Sub-Inspector vacancies.
