The US Food and Drug Administration has issued a mandatory recall of certain batches of So Delicious Dairy Free frozen dessert pints after concerns surfaced that the ice cream-like product may contain small stones and other hard foreign materials. Danone USA, the parent company behind the brand, filed the recall notice with the FDA on Thursday.
The affected products are carton pints of several varieties within the So Delicious Dairy Free line, including flavors such as Coconut Milk Vanilla Bean, Coconut Milk Chocolate, and others distributed nationwide. While the FDA has not confirmed any injuries related to the contamination, the agency warned that consuming hard foreign objects like stones can pose a serious choking hazard or cause dental injury.
According to the recall notice, the contamination likely occurred during the manufacturing process at a facility where raw ingredients containing small stones may have been inadequately screened before entering production. Danone has stated that it is cooperating fully with federal regulators and has launched an investigation into how the contamination entered the supply chain.
Consumers who purchased the affected pints are being asked to return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. The FDA has published a complete list of SKU codes, lot numbers, and "best by" dates that correspond to the recalled products. Shoppers are urged to check their freezers before consuming any pints from this brand line.
This recall is the latest in a series of food-safety enforcement actions taken by the FDA over the past year targeting dairy-free and plant-based alternatives, which have seen rapidly growing demand across American grocery shelves. Industry analysts note that the surge in production volume for these alternative products may have outpaced quality control measures at some facilities.
