Three prominent colleges under the University of Delhi have simultaneously announced vacancies for assistant professors, marking one of the larger hiring drives by DU-affiliated institutions this year. Daulat Ram College has opened applications for 121 posts, Lady Shri Ram College for Women has 78 openings, and Shyam Lal College (Evening) has 40 positions. Altogether, the three campuses are looking to fill over 239 teaching roles across a wide range of subjects.
The recruitment drive, notified in 2020, signals a renewed effort by the university to address faculty shortages that have persisted in several departments over the years. DU-affiliated colleges have long reported gaps in teaching staff, especially in commerce, arts, sciences, and humanities streams. The evening wing of Shyam Lal College specifically caters to working professionals and non-traditional learners, making these additional posts critical for maintaining academic delivery in day-shift programs as well.
Applications were accepted through an online portal, with candidates required to meet the University Grants Commission's eligibility criteria for assistant professor appointments, including a master's degree with minimum marks and a valid NET/SET qualification or an M.Phil./Ph.D., as applicable. Shortlisting was expected to follow the merit list prepared by the university, and subsequent interviews or personal appearances would be conducted as per institutional procedures.
Education analysts noted that such bulk recruitments are significant because they not only strengthen academic infrastructure but also improve student–faculty ratios, which directly impact teaching quality and research output.
