The central government on Monday announced the commencement of one of its largest-ever recruitment drives, offering more than 1.83 lakh job openings across three major recruiting bodies — the Indian Railways, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The initiative is expected to give millions of aspirants across the country a fresh opportunity to secure stable government employment.
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) alone will fill thousands of positions including Group D staff,Junior Engineer, Traffic Apprentice, and various technical and non-technical roles spread across zonal railways nationwide. The SSC will recruit candidates for multi-tasking staff, junior secretariat assistant, inspection officer, and other group B and C posts under various ministry departments. Meanwhile, the UPSC will conduct examinations for civil services, engineering services, combined defence services, and other premium All India Services positions.
Union minister for railways and personnel has described the drive as a significant step toward strengthening public administration while simultaneously addressing the persistent unemployment challenge facing younger Indians. Officials stated that all notifications have been published on the respective portals of the railways, SSC, and UPSC, and candidates can apply through the online modes at their earliest convenience.
Career counsellors and coaching centres across the country welcomed the announcement. Many had warned that the number of competitive exam aspirants had surged past ten million in recent years, with only a fraction securing positions each cycle. This expanded hiring round is seen as a positive shift, though experts caution that the selection ratios remain steep.
Eligibility criteria vary by post and commission, but most positions require candidates to hold at least a bachelor's degree from a recognised university. Age relaxations are available for reserved categories as per existing government norms. Candidates are advised to verify the official notifications carefully before submitting applications, since different recruiting bodies maintain separate timelines and procedures.
