Bihar is set to fill thousands of Junior Engineer vacancies across two major recruitment drives, offering a significant employment opportunity for engineering graduates in the state.
In one drive, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Bihar has notified 288 Junior Engineer (Civil) posts. The recruitment was advertised through the official Bihar state portal at state.bihar.gov.in, inviting eligible candidates to apply online. The positions fall under the civil engineering vertical and are intended to strengthen infrastructure and public health engineering projects across the state.
Almost simultaneously, the Bihar Trade and Service Selection Commission (BTSC) floated a much larger notification for 6,379 Junior Engineer vacancies under its 2019 recruitment cycle. These posts, also applied for online through btsc.bih.nic.in, span multiple departments and disciplines within the state government's engineering services. This represents one of the largest engineering recruitment drives ever announced by any Indian state in recent years.
Together, these two recruitments account for over 6,600 Junior Engineer positions in Bihar alone. Candidates appearing for the exams are typically required to hold a degree in engineering from a recognized university or institution. The selection process generally involves a written examination followed by document verification.
Recruitment experts note that the staggered announcements suggest the Bihar government is clearing a long-pending backlog of engineering vacancies accumulated across various departments over several years. For millions of young engineers in Bihar who have been waiting for government positions, these notifications represent a major break.
The application windows for both recruitments were opened shortly after the notifications were published, and candidates were advised to submit their forms before the deadlines. With such large numbers of expected applicants, the competition for these posts is expected to be steep.
