The Bihar state government has officially notified one of the largest-ever police recruitment drives in the country's history, opening applications for more than 69,100 vacancies across multiple ranks in the Bihar Police force. The recruitment, announced in 2021, covers positions ranging from constable to head constable and beyond, with a structured pay scale that places the maximum monthly salary at approximately ₹69,100 for senior roles within this particular batch.
The selection process will follow the standard multi-tier examination pattern conducted by the Bihar Police or the state's public service commission, typically including a written test, physical efficiency test, medical examination, and document verification. Eligibility criteria generally require candidates to have passed class 12 or graduation depending on the post, along with age relaxations for reserved categories as per state government norms.
Applications will be accepted exclusively through the official Bihar Police recruitment portal starting November 10, 2021. The notification period is expected to remain open for several weeks, allowing candidates across the state ample time to submit their forms. With such a large number of vacancies, the recruitment is anticipated to significantly reduce existing manpower shortages in the state's law enforcement agencies.
In a parallel development, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has also been processing recruitment for Sub-Inspectors in Delhi Police, reflecting a broader trend of expanded policing forces across Indian urban and state jurisdictions. While the Delhi Police SI recruitment operates under central government rules with its own vacancy count and salary structure, the Bihar initiative stands out due to its sheer scale and the direct impact on state-level policing capacity.
Officials state that the recruitment aims to modernize and strengthen the police workforce, improve grassroots law enforcement presence, and address long-standing understaffing issues that have hampered crime control and public safety operations in various districts.
