Patna: The Bihar government has officially released the recruitment notification for the post of Constable under the Bihar Police, with a total of 19,838 vacancies announced for the current hiring cycle. The online application process is scheduled to commence on March 18, 2025, and candidates are advised to apply through the official Bihar Police recruitment portal before the last date.
This recruitment drive represents one of the most significant state-level police hiring exercises in Bihar's recent history. The massive number of openings is expected to attract lakhs of applicants across the state, particularly from rural and semi-urban areas where police constable positions are among the most sought-after government jobs.
The Bihar Police Directorate has stated that the selection process will follow the standard merit-based procedure, which typically includes a written examination, physical efficiency test, and document verification. Candidates meeting the prescribed educational and age criteria will be shortlisted for the preliminary examination phase.
Eligibility criteria for the post require candidates to have passed at least graduation from a recognized university. The upper age limit has been set at 27 years for general category candidates, with relaxation available for reserved categories as per state government norms. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes will receive age relaxation and fee concessions as applicable under Bihar reservation policy.
Officials mentioned that the detailed advertisement, including the complete syllabus, exam pattern, and category-wise vacancy distribution, will be published alongside the notification on the official website. District-wise quota allocation is also expected to be part of the final recruitment rules, ensuring representation from all regions of the state.
Political observers note that the recruitment drive comes at a time when thousands of candidates who appeared for previous police sub-inspector and constable exams are still awaiting results. The new notification provides a fresh opportunity for these aspirants to apply for the current cycle as well.
Application fees are expected to vary by category, with general category candidates required to pay a higher fee compared to reserved category applicants. Online payment through debit card, credit card, or net banking is likely to be the accepted mode, consistent with previous Bihar Police recruitment drives.
