The Committee for the Subsidiary Services of Bihar (CSBC) has initiated a major recruitment drive for forest guard positions, announcing a total of 484 vacant posts across Bihar. The notification was published on the official portal at csbc.bih.nic.in, and eligible candidates are encouraged to apply well before the final date of September 4, 2020.
Forest guards in Bihar play a critical role in wildlife conservation, anti-poaching operations, and the protection of state forest reserves. The position is considered among the most sought-after government jobs in rural and semi-urban Bihar, given its combination of field duty and government service benefits including medical facilities, pension, and residential quarters in forest ranges.
The recruitment process will consist of multiple stages. First, candidates will undergo a written examination covering subjects such as general knowledge, reasoning, mathematics, and the local language. Those who clear the written test will then appear for a physical efficiency test, which includes running, high jump, and long jump. Final merit will be determined based on combined performance in both the written and physical components, followed by document verification.
Eligibility criteria require candidates to have passed the 10th standard or equivalent from a recognized board. The upper age limit is generally set at 42 years for general category candidates, with relaxations available for reserved categories as per Bihar government norms. Candidates must also meet minimum physical standards, including height and chest measurements for males and appropriate height requirements for females.
This recruitment drive follows previous forest guard selections held by the CSBC, which have consistently attracted lakhs of applicants due to the limited number of vacancies. Political parties and local leaders in forest-fringe districts have welcomed the announcement, noting that it provides employment opportunities to youth from rural areas who often live near forest regions.
