Telangana police announced on Friday that they have successfully recovered all the army weapons that were stolen from a military facility in the Sikandrabad Cantonment area of Hyderabad. The recovery comes weeks after the theft was brought to light, and authorities have taken a suspect into custody in connection with the case.
According to police sources, the theft was carried out with the help of an individual who works in the cantonment area. The accused has been arrested and is currently in police custody. However, investigators have not yet disclosed additional details about the investigation, including whether there are more accomplices involved or how the weapons were ultimately retrieved.
The incident first came to public attention on August 31, when a lieutenant colonel of the Madras Regiment filed a formal complaint at the Bolaram police station in Hyderabad. The complaint stated that weapons were stolen from two separate armory rooms located approximately 40 meters apart within the cantonment premises. The locks on both rooms had been forcibly broken, and the high-tech weapons housed inside were taken.
Military cantonment areas in India are considered sensitive zones, and any breach involving the theft of firearms and other weapons from such facilities draws immediate concern among security agencies. The exact number and type of weapons stolen have not been officially confirmed by either the police or the defense ministry.
