Jagan Mohan Reddy, who has largely governed through administrative channels and welfare schemes since becoming chief minister in 2019, explained that the padayatra is intended to help him reconnect directly with the people of Andhra Pradesh. The padayatra tradition holds deep roots in Andhra and Telangana politics, most famously associated with Jagan's father, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), whose legendary foot marches built the political foundation of the YSR Congress Party. Jagan himself undertook a brief walk in 2018 before the last Assembly polls, but it was far shorter than the exhaustive tours his father was known for.

With the next Andhra Pradesh Assembly election due in 2029, Jagan appears to be laying the groundwork for a major electoral campaign by re-establishing his personal connect with voters in rural and semi-urban areas. The YSR Congress Party, which currently enjoys a comfortable majority in the state Legislative Assembly, faces the challenge of maintaining its momentum against a resurgent Telugu Desam Party led by N. Chandrababu Naidu and a declining but still present Indian National Congress presence. Opposition leaders have already begun questioning whether Jagan can sustain a lengthy padayatra given his current governing responsibilities.
