The West Bengal government is all set to announce the recruitment notification for 13,421 teacher positions across various educational institutions in the state. Education Minister Bratya Basu confirmed the development during a recent address, stating that the official notification would be made public in the coming weeks.
The recruitment drive covers teaching posts at the primary, upper primary, and secondary levels across government and government-aided schools throughout West Bengal. The positions span multiple subjects and grade levels, making it one of the largest teacher recruitment exercises in the state's recent history.
Thousands of candidates have been waiting patiently for the notification, which had remained pending for an extended period. The previous teacher recruitment process had faced delays due to administrative revisions and policy reviews by the state education department. Many aspirants who had prepared diligently for the examinations expressed relief upon hearing the minister's confirmation.
The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) is expected to conduct the selection process, which typically includes a written examination followed by document verification. Candidates are likely to need a minimum of a B.Ed degree along with qualifying in the State Eligibility Test (SET) or Central Eligibility Test (CTET) as per the norms prescribed for different teaching levels.
The recruitment will fill vacancies arising from retirements, new school openings, and expanded teaching requirements under the state's educational initiatives. With the government's continued emphasis on improving school infrastructure and student enrollment, additional teachers are essential to maintain the pupil-teacher ratio mandated by national education guidelines.
Educational activists and candidate groups have been regularly calling on the state government to expedite the process, arguing that prolonged vacancies are affecting the quality of education in many schools. The minister acknowledged these concerns and assured that the notification would be released without further delay.
Aspiring candidates are advised to keep a close watch on the official WBSSC website and the state education department's portal for the notification release date, application procedure, and important dates for examination and selection.
