West Bengal to Recruit 16,500 Assistant Primary Teachers to Tackle Staff Shortage

The West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) has issued a major recruitment notification for 16,500 Assistant Primary Teacher vacancies across the state, marking one of the largest teaching recruitment drives in recent history. The announcement aims to address a long-standing shortage of qualified teaching staff in government and aided primary schools throughout West Bengal.

The recruitment will be conducted by the WBBPE, which oversees primary education in the state. Candidates can apply online through the official website at wbbpe.org. To be eligible for the position, candidates are generally required to possess a Secondary or Higher Secondary qualification along with a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) or equivalent teaching credential approved by the National Council for Teacher Education. The upper age limit and reservation policies follow the standard rules framed by the West Bengal government for direct recruitment to state government teaching posts.
