The Uttar Pradesh government is set to announce the district-wise allotment of teaching positions for approximately 69,000 vacancies under the 2020 teacher recruitment drive, officials confirmed on Monday. The announcement comes after a prolonged period of uncertainty that has kept thousands of qualified candidates in limbo.
Candidates who appeared for the competitive examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) and other related testing agencies will now be able to see which districts they have been allocated for posting. The recruitment exercise, initially announced in 2020, covered multiple categories of teaching posts including primary teachers, junior high school teachers, and high school teachers across government and aided schools throughout the state.
The district allotment process involves matching candidates' ranks and preferences with available vacancies in each district. Typically, candidates are allotted districts based on their merit rank, preference order submitted during counseling, and the availability of posts in each location. Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes receive additional consideration as per government policy.
This recruitment drive was one of the largest teacher hiring exercises in Uttar Pradesh's history, aimed at addressing the severe shortage of teaching staff in government schools across the state. Education experts had long flagged that many schools in rural and semi-urban areas operated with insufficient faculty, impacting the quality of education delivered to millions of students.
The delay in releasing the final district allotment has been a major point of concern for candidates and their families. Many had been waiting over a year for clarity on where they would be posted, with some traveling between districts in hopes of securing information about their status.
Education department sources indicate that the allotment list will be published on the official government portal, allowing candidates to download their allocation details online. The department has also urged candidates to keep their contact information updated to receive further communication regarding joining reports and document verification schedules.
