Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have neutralised two terrorists during a carefully planned joint operation in the Udhampur district, officials confirmed on Sunday. The operation, codenamed Operation Sohan, was carried out by a combined team comprising the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to senior police and military sources, the operation was launched after reliable intelligence inputs pointed to the presence of armed terrorists in a hideout located in the dense forested area of Udhampur. The three agencies had been monitoring the location for some time before deciding to move in simultaneously to ensure no chance of escape for the targets.
The terrorists are believed to be affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), a Pakistan-based terrorist organisation that has been designated as a prohibited organisation under India's Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Sources indicated that the two individuals were likely part of a sleeper cell that had been infiltrated into the region with the objective of carrying out further attacks.
During the exchange of fire that followed the deployment of the security forces, both terrorists were killed on the spot. No casualties were reported among the security personnel involved in the operation. A thorough search of the area is underway, and authorities are recovering weapons, ammunition, and other materials used by the militants.
This latest encounter adds to the series of successful counter-terrorism operations conducted across Jammu and Kashmir in recent months. Security agencies have been intensifying their vigilance along the Line of Control and in sensitive areas of the Union Territory, leading to several high-profile neutralisations of terrorists.
Officials emphasised that Operation Sohan reflects the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies working together with precise intelligence and swift execution. The government has repeatedly stated its commitment to eliminating terrorist infrastructure in the region through sustained and decisive action.
