Hyderabad police's Excise State Task Force has busted a ganja supply syndicate that was operating from a mid-range hotel in the upscale Kondapur area, seizing an estimated stock worth nearly ₹9 lakhs and arresting two accused who had previously worked as security personnel before turning to the drug trade.
According to officials, the operation, which was carried out following consistent surveillance and intelligence inputs, led to the discovery of a well-organized distribution point inside a hotel in Kondapur, one of Hyderabad's most populated and commercially active localities. The two individuals arrested were identified as former security guards who had allegedly abandoned their legitimate employment to become part of the illegal cannabis supply chain.
Sources said the accused were reportedly involved in both storing and dispatching ganja to various buyers across the city and surrounding areas. The seized consignment, once weighed and appraised by excise authorities, was valued at approximately ₹9 lakhs — a sum that signals a moderately scaled operation rather than a small-time trafficking setup.
The task force team conducted a coordinated raid and managed to apprehend the accused along with a significant quantity of ganja from the premises. The hotel room had been used as a temporary storage and transit point, with drugs being forwarded to multiple locations in and around Hyderabad. Excise officials are now tracing the upstream suppliers to dismantle the full chain.
Former security personnel turning to drug peddling is not entirely unusual in the region. Economic pressures and limited alternative employment options have in some cases pushed individuals with law-enforcementadjacent backgrounds into criminal activities, leveraging their knowledge of routes, surveillance patterns, and secure logistics.
The case has drawn attention from state excise authorities, who have repeatedly emphasized cracking down on urban narcotics distribution networks. Both accused are expected to be produced before a local court, and further investigations are underway to identify additional associates linked to the syndicate.
