The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) commenced its Group IV preliminary examination today, marking the beginning of what is one of the most critical recruitment drives in the state. Thousands of aspirants gathered at examination centres spread across every district in Tamil Nadu to compete for government positions spanning clerical, administrative, and supporting roles within the state machinery.
The examination is being conducted under heightened security arrangements, with multiple layers of verification ensuring that only legitimate candidates enter the test halls. Digital photo verification, fingerprint scanning, and thermal imaging checks have been deployed at major centres to prevent impersonation — a persistent concern in India's competitive examination ecosystem. Additional personnel from local law enforcement agencies have been stationed outside examination venues to manage crowd control and ensure smooth movement of candidates.
This year's Group IV recruitment drive is particularly significant given the large number of vacancies declared by the TNPSC, which has attracted an exceptionally high volume of applicants — estimated in several lakhs from across the state and beyond. The posts being filled include positions such as Junior Assistant, Court Attendant, and various clerical roles in departmental offices, making this one of the most accessible entry points into Tamil Nadu's state government employment framework.
Candidates were instructed to arrive at least two hours before the scheduled timing of their shift, carrying only their admit card and a valid original identity proof. Use of mobile phones, smartwatches, and any electronic devices inside examination centres remains strictly prohibited, with violators facing disqualification and potential legal action under the relevant provisions of the TNPSC Act.
The commission has also announced contingency arrangements for candidates who may face transit difficulties due to weather or logistical disruptions, allowing them to report to nearby alternate centres if notified in advance. Results of the preliminary examination are expected to be announced within several weeks, followed by document verification and subsequent stages of the selection process.
