A retired Air India pilot has been found dead at a premium hospitality establishment in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, prompting police investigation into the cause of death.
The incident came to light when hotel staff discovered the man, who held the rank of flight captain during his service with the national carrier, unconscious and unresponsive at Hotel The Grand in the upscale locality. Despite immediate efforts by hotel personnel and emergency responders, the former aviation professional could not be revived.
According to Delhi Police, the body was sent for post-mortem examination at the nearby AIIMS hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Investigators are currently probing whether the incident involves natural causes, foul play, or any other factor.
Vasant Kunj is one of south Delhi's most affluent residential and commercial neighborhoods, home to several luxury hotels and corporate offices. The area falls under the jurisdiction of the South West Delhi Police Commissionerate.
Air India, which was formerly the flag carrier of India before being privatized and merged with its low-cost subsidiary IndiGo's parent company, had numerous experienced captains who served the airline for decades before retiring.
Police sources indicated that they are attempting to establish the identity of the deceased and trace his family members. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released a formal statement regarding the circumstances leading to the discovery.
