KOLKATA — Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's economic policies at a Bharatiya Janata Party event in Kolkata, praising what he termed the transformative impact of "Modinomics" on India's growth trajectory. Speaking at the function organized by the state unit of the BJP, Singh lauded the government's flagship initiatives ranging from financial inclusion and infrastructure development to digital public infrastructure that has redefined economic governance in the country.
During his address, Singh highlighted several achievements of the central government under Modi's leadership, including the expansion of the middle class, the rise in foreign exchange reserves, and the establishment of India as a leading manufacturing hub through the Production Linked Incentive scheme. He also drew attention to the government's welfare-oriented economic approach, which he argued had disproportionately benefited marginalized sections of society.
The event also served as the official kickoff for a month-long public outreach programme launched by the West Bengal BJP. Starting September 17 and running through mid-October, the campaign aims to take the party's narrative directly to communities across the state. Organizers said the initiative would feature village-level meetings, health camps, legal aid Drives, and interactive sessions where party leaders would engage citizens on governance and development issues.
BJP state president Dilip Ghosh, addressing the gathering, described the outreach as a unique opportunity for the party to reconnect with voters ahead of upcoming electoral cycles. "This is not just a celebration but a mission to listen to the people and showcase the real work being done by the Modi government," Ghosh said. Party workers across various districts were seen preparing for street-level mobilization, with plans to distribute informational pamphlets and hold door-to-door conversations.
Political analysts noted that the timing of the event carries strategic significance, coming months before the next round of state-level electoral assessments. The BJP has been actively building its organizational presence in West Bengal, long considered a stronghold of opposition parties, and insiders say the campaign is designed to strengthen the party's grassroots network in rural and semi-urban areas of the state.
The October 17 birthday celebrations of Prime Minister Modi hold particular importance for the BJP as they fall during an active period of party restructuring and outreach. Previous year, similar events saw large-scale volunteer mobilization and announcement of new welfare schemes targeted at specific communities.
