New Delhi: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration, stating that the PM has successfully fused good governance with a model of participatory democracy that has stripped the opposition's criticism of its traditional potency. Speaking at a party event in the capital, Rajnath Singh said the combination of development-driven policies and citizen engagement has rendered both the opposition's "false narrative" and the usual anti-incumbency factor largely irrelevant in shaping public opinion.
The remarks were seen as the virtual launching pad of the BJP's campaign to celebrate what the party describes as Prime Minister Modi's 25-year unbroken streak of national leadership. The defence minister framed the PM's tenure as a transformative period during which India has risen significantly on the global stage while delivering tangible outcomes to its citizens.
Rajnath Singh, a senior figure in the BJP and a trusted ally of the prime minister, went on to outline several flagship initiatives as evidence of the government's delivery record. He highlighted programmes spanning infrastructure development, digital public goods, rural livelihoods, and national security modernisation as hallmarks of the current administration's work.
The opposition has routinely criticised the government on issues ranging from employment and inflation to social cohesion and democratic institutions. However, Rajnath Singh argued that the BJP's narrative has been strong enough to counter these charges because of what he called results-oriented governance.
Political analysts noted that the defence minister's speech comes at a time when the BJP is preparing its ground game for future electoral contests across the country.
