The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) on Wednesday officially announced an increase of 2,000 teaching vacancies under the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET) 2026 cycle, sending waves of optimism among lakhs of candidates who have been waiting for the results and final recruitment list.

The decision comes as a significant boost for aspirants who cleared the REET preliminary screening and had been anxious about limited openings in a state where government teaching positions remain highly sought after due to their job security and social prestige. The additional vacancies will be distributed across both Paper I, intended for recruitment to the role of Primary Teacher in classes one through five, and Paper II, designed for Upper Primary Teacher positions in classes six through eight.

Sources within the board indicated that the revised vacancy count reflects a fresh assessment of staffing requirements by the state's School Education Department. Multiple districts that had reported severe shortages of qualified teachers over recent years were cited as key beneficiaries of the augmentation. Officials declined to disclose which specific districts would see the largest allocation but confirmed that priority would be given to areas with historically high vacancy rates.

The RSSB also clarified that the increased recruitment does not alter the eligibility criteria or the cut-off marks previously declared for the examination. Candidates who appeared for the test earlier this year will now benefit from a wider pool of available seats without needing to sit for another exam or resubmit documents.

Candidate forums and coaching centers across Rajasthan welcomed the announcement, describing it as a long-overdue correction to what many had called an artificially capped recruitment drive. Legal experts noted that expanding vacancies without reopening applications avoids complications related to reservation policies and merit lists, making the move administratively straightforward.

The board is expected to publish the final merit list in the coming weeks, followed by document verification and medical fitness checks for shortlisted candidates. Recruitment to the new posts is anticipated to begin in the next academic session, aligning with the state's routine teacher induction timeline.
