Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate the 20th National Employment Mela on Friday, marking a significant milestone in the government's ongoing effort to connect jobseekers with public-sector opportunities. During the event, recruitment letters for more than 51,000 candidates will be distributed across 45 centres nationwide, with the PM addressing the newly appointed employees through a video conference.
The jobs being offered under this drive span a wide range of central government ministries and organisations. Recipients will join departments including the Revenue Division, Railway Ministry, Home Ministry, Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Financial Services Department, and Defence Ministry, among others. These appointments follow a competitive selection process conducted by the respective recruiting bodies over recent months.
Since the inaugural edition of the National Employment Mela was launched in April 2018, the initiative has facilitated employment for over 12.50 lakh candidates across India. What began as a one-time employment drive has evolved into a regular, structured programme held approximately every four months, giving millions of graduate and postgraduate jobseekers a direct pathway to government employment without the need for repeated exam cycles.
The 45 venues selected for this edition were chosen to ensure wide geographical coverage across states and union territories. Local employment exchanges and district administrations coordinated the logistics, enabling candidates from rural and semi-urban areas to access the event conveniently. Organisers said that special provisions were made for differently-abled candidates and women applicants to encourage inclusive participation.
Government officials described the employment mela as a flagship initiative that streamlines recruitment and reduces the administrative burden typically associated with public-sector hiring. By consolidating multiple departmental recruitments into a single event, the programme aims to accelerate the appointment process and provide immediate clarity to candidates who have spent months awaiting results.
The Prime Minister's virtual address is expected to motivate jobseekers and highlight the government's commitment to generating employment opportunities.
