A disturbing incident unfolded in South Delhi when a man allegedly shot his neighbour in the leg and then took his own life, prompting a murder-suicide investigation by local police.
According to police sources, Neeraj, who resided in a residential area of South Delhi, opened fire at his neighbour Rajwati, injuring her leg, before turning the weapon on himself. He sustained a gunshot wound to the head and died on the spot. Rajwati was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is receiving treatment for her injury.
Delhi Police confirmed that a preliminary investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the shooting. A case has been registered and forensic teams were deployed to collect evidence from the scene, including the weapon and shell casings.
Local residents expressed shock at the violence, describing the neighbourhood as typically quiet. Some neighbours told reporters they had noticed occasional tussles between the two parties in the past but nothing that indicated such a severe escalation.
Police have not yet released detailed information about any prior dispute between the two, but sources suggested it may have stemmed from a long-standing personal grievance. The exact nature of the disagreement is yet to be established.
Rajwati, who is being treated in the hospital, is expected to recover from the leg injury. Her statement will be a key piece of evidence as the investigation proceeds.
This incident has reignited discussions about neighbourly disputes and access to weapons in densely populated urban areas of the national capital.
